The older you get. The more aware you become of your behavior. As you get older, you start changing your opinions. Awareness makes you stop hanging with certain people. You also stop some of your bad habits. You stop taking life for granted because you know that life is short, sweet, and fragile. I used to do the right thing out of fear, but now I do it because the thrill is gone.
I use to drink heavily. I got tired of headaches, nausea, and body aches. It took days for me to get over a hangover. It does not take a rocket science to see that this is not having fun. This is why it is written in Proverbs 20:1 states “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.” I hate that feeling, so now I monitored what I am drinking.
I used to worry about what people think about me. I mean this would really make me do things that I thought was pleasing to others. I realized that people talked about everybody. They talked about Jesus. Do you really believe that they will not talk about you? I am here to tell you that they will. I now love reading and hearing the word. When others talk about me, I have learned to pray for them. I have learned that we are all sinners, and need God’s grace.
I used to worry all the time. I used to worry about money, my health, and my family. Worrying can affect your physical and mental health. Worrying keeps you from concentrating on what really matters. Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing?” That verse said it all.
I am not where I need to be, but thank God I am not where I was. I am losing interest in theses unhealthy habits because I love my relationship with God. The thrill is gone. I am not doing the right thing because of love not fear. I know that God will forgive me for my sins, so I do not have to fear any consequences when I fail. I am leaning towards making the right choices in my life because they are healthy, and they keep me near to thee.
