Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday which is the beginning of Lent. If you read my post on Lent, this is a Christian holiday where we give up something we enjoy until Good Friday. Jesus wandered in the desert for 40 days without food or water. He was tempted by the devil, but he stayed faithful. What will you give up and what strategies will you use to stay faithful? Here are some ways that can help you during this time.
Seeking God’s help, instruction, and guidance is the key to fasting. He is able to comfort us when we are weak because the devil will tempt you during this process. You will need divine help to conquer your goals. You can pray anytime or anywhere. Make sure you do not pray to get the attention of others because Jesus was alone and we have to do this alone.
Bible study is so important during Lent. If we concentrate on the word, we will have the strength to hold on. The Bible inspires us because we can see how other faith warriors handled their trials and sins. A bible is a great tool for fasting.
Develop a strategy
Take out your calendar and start writing down how are you going to stop those temptations. If you are going to stop smoking, drinking, what are you going to do when you want a drink or smoke. What will help you to block out Satan’s voice? Write down how will you overcome these obstacles now. You might have to edit your strategy but stay on track.
Jesus offered his life for us to live freely. We need to offer what we deem pleasurable to God. He is worth the sacrifice.
